Read moreAt a time when the challenges related to youth are multiplying, investing in educational and social support programs is of crucial importance. The Maisons Kekpart, operating in the Longueuil area, are essential players in this field. With unwavering commitment to prevention, intervention, education, recreation, and culture, these centers offer a glimmer of hope for children and young people facing various difficulties.
Currently, the Mini-Kekpart serve 145 children aged 6 to 12, while annually reaching no less than 6,500 young people through their seven programs. These initiatives cover a wide range of needs, from combating school dropout to integrating new arrivals, to preventing social exclusion, juvenile delinquency, substance abuse, violence, and sexual exploitation.
The issues addressed by the Mini-Kekpart are complex and varied, and their approach is inclusive, taking into account the diversity of young people, whether they are girls, boys, transgender, two-spirit, or non-binary. Psychosocial interventions, intellectual stimulation, nutritional training, and parent-teen negotiation sessions are integral parts of their activities, aiming to promote the overall development of young people.
In January 2024, a third House for children aged 6 to 12, Mini-Kekpart Roussillon, was established to continue providing these essential services. Naturally, the Cogir Foundation contributed to this endeavor by funding the acquisition of kitchen equipment and furniture, essential for the smooth operation of Kekpart’s programs.
Every dollar will help strengthen the capacity of Maisons Kekpart to provide quality support to the youth of the Longueuil area. These centers not only fill gaps but aspire to create an environment where young people can thrive, acquire skills, and feel supported in their journeys.
